If you are new to the SEO world, you’re in luck if you are reading this blog. We are going to share several tips that should be followed in order to get good traffic from major search engines. Now if you are really new to this world, it might be a good idea to go over SEO in general. SEO aka Search Engine Optimization, is method of making your web pages more search engine friendly.
So what should you focus on? Keyword research is very important when it comes to SEO. Search engine and the users depend on keywords when it comes to finding your site. You want to be sure and choose the right keywords for your brand and site. There actually sites out there (Market Samurai for example) that will help you find profitable keywords for your site. Density is another focus point. You want to make sure to use the keywords but keep in mind that it should be a natural move – like the way you would talk every day. Rule of thumb here is if you are writing 800 words for an article to be posted on your site, your keywords should be repeated more than three or four times per each 100 word block. Google will actually discipline you if your keyword density is higher than 5% – you want to stick in the 2%-4% range.
Being unique comes in handy with SEO. Each page on your site should have a unique title tag. The title tag should do a couple of things. It should help identify to the reader their location on your site, however you can also add in some of your well researched keywords to help with the SEO.
Saying “NO” to duplicate content should be on your list as well. What has been happening a lot lately is bloggers take content from other sites and stick on their just for the sake of having something on their site. As you can imagine, they “forget” to give credit to the original author. When you are replicating web content, you are affecting your brand’s integrity, which can have an impact on search engine rankings. So repeat after me – no duplicate content.
Another “No, No” on the list is broken backlinks – you want to stay away from those guys. It is always a good idea to check your site for broken links and even dead links. If your website has too many of these, it is not good for SEO as well as your site. This not only hurts the search engines but your readers as well.
Last but not least, image optimization is one of the most important factors when it comes to SEO. We’ve all heard the phrase a picture is worth a thousand words. Images also allow you to put in Alt text. Alt text is what will show up if the picture is broken. Technically, it is there for you to describe the image for readers who are visually impaired. However, search engines also use this Alt text when they crawl your site to score it. This in turn, gives you another opportunity to put your keywords into the description.
We hope you found this blog helpful and will be using the tips mentioned above.
